The James Madison Dukes won their 3rd straight game and improved to 14-5 (4-2 CAA) on the season after defeating the Hofstra Pride, 86-82 in OT, this past Saturday. James Madison got a big performance from Yohanny Dalembert in OT and hit some key FT’s late in the game to knock off one of the better CAA teams on the road. James Madison shot 46.3% from the field and 35.7% (10-28) from beyond the arc in the victory. The Dukes held the Pride to just 36.0% shooting from the field and 22.9% (8-35) from three-point range. Leading the way for James Madison was Shakir Brown who had a double-double with 22 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 assists. On the season, the Dukes have been led by Ron Curry (15.8 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 3.8 apg, 1.1 spg), Shakir Brown (12.7 ppg, 6.4 rpg), and Yohanny Dalembert (8.5 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 1.1 bpg). Offensviely, James Madison is averaging 76.3 ppg on 45.7% shooting from the field and 38.4% shooting from beyond the arc. The Dukes average 9.5 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.06. Defensively, James Madison is holding their opponents to an average of 68.6 ppg on 39.9% shooting from the field. The Dukes have a rebound margin of 4.1 and a turnover margin of -1.6.
The Dragons are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS loss and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Dukes are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. CAA opponents.
When Damion Lee decided to leave Drexel to play at Louisville, Drexel knew they might have trouble scoring the basketball but I don’t think at this point in the season they thought that they would have just 3 wins and rank 328th in scoring offensive and 337th in FG %. James Madison seems to have turned a corner after a tough start in CAA play this season as they recently have been able to pick up road wins against two of the better CAA teams in Northeastern and Hofstra. James Madison is holding their opponents to under 40.0% shooting from the field and I think between Ron Curry and Shakir Brown, the Dukes will be able to do enough offensive damage in this one to cover this large spread at home. Take James Madison to cover.
