The VMI Keydets play host to the Samford Bulldogs in SoCon action on Thursday.
Despite a 2-4 conference record the Samford Bulldogs have ability but need to show it on the court. The Bulldogs ended a three game skid with an 84-68 rout of visiting Western Carolina on Saturday as a four point favorite. Samford broke open a two point game at the break with a big second half with 52.5% shooting adding up to five more field goals versus the 45.6% accuracy of the Catamounts. Wyatt Walker gave the Bulldogs a contest high 26 points and 12 rebounds on 11-15 from the field with Matt Rose tossing in 16 points. Marcus Johnson was next in line with13 points while Christen Cunningham and Darius Jones-Gibson combining for 17 points and 15 assists.

The VMI Keydets have been known for lighting up scoreboards with threes in recent seasons past. However the Keydets are averaging around the mid 60’s so the days of scoring at will have been put on hold. VMI has been struggling on both ends of the floor during an 0-5 start to their conference schedule. The Keydets are coming off of an 85-68 loss at North Carolina-Greensboro on Sunday as a ten point underdog. The Spartans jumped to an 18 point edge after 20 minutes and never looked back behind 58% shooting including a 10-22 mark on threes which made the Keydets 35% accuracy fall short of the mark. QJ Peterson led VMI with14 points and five yanks with Julian Eleby tossing in 12 while Trey Chapman and Phillip Anglad netting eight points apiece.
