The Marshall Thundering Herd look to start another hot streak when they visit the Old Dominion Monarchs.
The Marshall Thundering Herd were beginning to open some eyes as they forged a five game winning streak behind plenty of scoring. The scoring continued but the winning didn’t in a 103-95 defeat at Charlotte. The 49ers led by nine after 20 minutes and then traded baskets the rest of the way. The Thundering Herd held a slight 53.6%-51.5% shooting edge but the only real difference was Charlotte’s 25-9 advantage at the charity stripe. John Elmore and James Kelly poured in 27 points apiece with Kelly grabbing 14 rebounds with Ryan Taylor tossing in 17 points. Stevie Browning netted 14 points as scoring was plentiful but defensive stops were not.

The Old Dominion Monarchs had high hopes for a quick start out of the gate but that didn’t happen so the team will need to persevere and play strong basketball going forward. The Monarchs had dropped three in a row before defeating Western Kentucky with a 43-33second half overcoming a four point halftime deficit. ODU burned the nets at 51% with the Hilltoppers limited to less then 35% which was a difference maker. Trey Freeman led the Old Dominion offense with 28 points on 13-25 from the floor with Jordan Baker and Aaron Bacote netting 12 points apiece. Zoran Talley and Brandan Stith combined for 16 points as only five players scored.
Marshall are 9-1-1 in their last 11 games overall. ODU are 5-16 ATS in their last 21 games overall and the over is 6-2-1 in their last 9 overall while the under is 9-4-1 in their last 14 vs. Conference USA. I think Marshall has enough to give Old Dominion a run for their money…
