The San Diego State Aztecs look to maintain their grip on the MWC with a win versus the Utah State Aggies.
The Utah State Aggies are tough to nail down meaning I don’t know how they compare to last season’s squad. It does appear this team has little room for error which we saw in Tuesday’s 80-68 loss to visiting UNLV as a three point home dog. A 45-32 Rebels second half run broke open a close contest with 53% shooting being the biggest advantage in the boxscore with 39% accuracy by USU resulting in a six basket hole. Chris Smith gave Utah State 16 points and seven assists with Lew Evans and Shane Rector tossing in 12 points apiece with Evans posting seven boards. Jalen Moore added nine points and five yanks but poor shooting killed the Aggies chances.

The question surrounding the San Diego State Aztecs is where will they get their offense from and my answer is that’s not a huge worry when the defense allows 60 points. The Aztecs have been rolling with six consecutive victories after downing Fresno State 73-67 in overtime Tuesday as a nine point favorite. SDSU squandered an eight point lead at the half before regrouping in the extra session. The Bulldogs connected at 39% with 15 more looks at the basket while San Diego State countered at 40% with 15 more free throws being decisive. Trey Kell poured in a game high 27 points with five yanks while Zylan Kell and Jeremy Hemsley tossed in eleven points each.
The over is 18-4 in Utah State last 22 Saturday games and is 18-5 in their last 23 vs. Mountain West while the over is 19-7 in the Aggies last 26 overall. The under is 36-15 in the Aztecs last 51 home games. San Diego State has done well in this match up so hopefully that trend continues…
