The Samford Bulldogs dropped to 11-9 (2-5 Southern) on the season after a tough 83-76 loss to the VMI Keydets, this past Thursday. Samford allowed VMI to go on a 9-0 run to end the 1st half to take a 45-37 lead into the break and couldn’t get a bucket to take lead after closing the gap to a 77-76 margin with just under a minute to play. Samford shot 44.2% from the field and 56.3% (9-16) from beyond the arc in the loss. The Bulldogs allowed the Keydets to shoot 47.5% from the field and 43.3% (13-30) from three-point range. USA TODAY Sports

The UNC Greensboro Spartans dropped to 6-13 (2-4 Southern) on the season after being defeated by the Chattanooga Mocs, 73-60, this past Thursday. UNC Greensboro came out strong against Chattanooga building a 35-29 halftime lead, however, struggled offensively in the 2nd half and allowed the Mocs to comeback to get the double-digit victory. UNC Greensboro shot 44.0% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the arc. The Spartans allowed the Mocs to shoot 51.1% from the field and 50.0% (11-22) from three-point range. Leading the way for UNC Greensboro was Kayel Locke who had 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. On the season, the Spartans have been led by Francis Alonso (12.6 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 1.8 apg), RJ White (12.2 ppg, 7.1 rpg), and Kayel Locke (11.2 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.7 apg). Offensviely, UNC Greensboro is averaging 70.7 ppg on 43.7% shooting from the field and 35.3% shooting from beyond the arc. The Spartans average 8.6 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.07. Defensively, UNC Greensboro is allowing their opponents to average 73.8 ppg on 46.2% shooting from the field. The Spartans average 6.1 steals per game and have a turnover margin of 0.9.

The Bulldogs are 26-8 ATS in their last 34 Saturday games and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games following a straight up loss. The Spartans are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 home games.

Samford has one of the better backcourts in the Southern conference led by Darius Jones-Gibson and Christen Cunningham, however, have a very inexperienced front-court and has struggled on the defensive end. UNC Greensboro was expected to struggle a bit when they learned that one of their best players, Tevon Saddler, decided not to come back however, they’ve played better as of late and gave the conference favorites, the Chattanooga Mocs, a run for their money in their recent loss. Samford is better than the effort they showed against VMI however, UNC Greensboro has played well at home and I think they’ll be able to come out with a victory in this one.
