Youngstown State Penguins and the Cleveland State Vikings met for the first time this season.
The rebuilding Cleveland State Vikings don’t appear to be a factor in the Horizon although there is plenty of time to make a difference in the conference. The Vikings are shooting for a season high three game winning streak after downing Illinois-Chicago 70-53 Monday as a 10.5 point favorite. The Flames were down ten heading to the locker room and never recovered despite both squads connecting at 37.7%. The Vikings totaled eight more looks with a few more baskets, threes and free throws while UIC went 11-28 at the stripe. Rob Edwards tossed in a game high 24 points and snagged six pulls with Andre Yates dropping eleven. Vinny Zollo and Demonte Flannigan combined for 17 points with Flannigan hauling in eight rebounds.

The Youngstown State Penguins have been a bit on the unpredictable side of things but that goes with the territory when rebuilding. The Penguins have dropped seven of ten following a 96-65 defeat at the hands of Horizon heavyweight Valparaiso as an 18 point home dog on Monday. The Crusaders were up 24 at the half and never took their foot off the gas behind 47% shooting and 14 more looks at the basket. Youngstown State simply could not stay in the game with 41% accuracy. Cameron Morse gave the Penguins a game high 23 points on 10-16 shooting with Jordan Andrews scoring 12. Bryce Nickels added eleven points and five yanks but the Penguins didn’t have offense .
