Missouri State vs. Southern Illinois - 1/24/16 College Basketball Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Missouri State Bears won their 2nd straight game and improved to 8-11 (4-3 MVC) on the season after defeating the Drake Bulldogs, 79-70, this past Wednesday. Missouri State had a huge 2nd half in which they outscored Drake by a 50-31 margin to overcome a 10-point halftime deficit and get the win. Missouri State shot 46.6% from the field and shot 83.3% (20-24) from the FT line. The Bears allowed the Bulldogs to shoot 41.0% from the field and outrebounded Drake by a 39-33 margin. Leading the way for Missouri State was Dequon Miller who had 23 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. On the season, the Bears have been led by Dequon Miller (12.3 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 2.6 apg), Camyn Boone (11.8 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 1.2 apg), and Dorrian Williams (7.4 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 4.5 apg, 1.3 spg). Offensively, Missouri State is averaging 66.4 ppg on 41.6% shooting from the field and 44.1% shooting from beyond the arc. The Bears average 4.8 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 0.96. Defensively, Missouri State is allowing their opponents to average 70.2 ppg on 44.1% shooting. The Bears average 3.4 blocks per game and 6.4 steals per game.

The Salukis are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 road games and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games overall. The Bears are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall however, just 7-20-1 ATS in their last 28 Sunday games.

Southern Illinois has been one of the most surprising teams in the country this season as they’ve been outstanding on the offensive side of the ball ranking 35th in the country in FG% and 80th in 3P FG%. Missouri State struggled in their non-conference schedule but hasn’t played bad since the beginning of MVC play which included a surprising 59-58 victory at home versus Northern Iowa.  Missouri State is currently holding MVC opponents to an average of 64.6 ppg and I think they’ll be able to slow the Salukis offensive in this one. The line currently hasn’t been set for this one but if Missouri State is getting 4-6 points in this one, I’m going to go with the Bears.
