UT-Arlington shot 42.7% from the field and outrebounded Louisiana Monroe by a 42-33 margin. The Mavericks allowed the Warhawks to shoot 54.0% from the field and 50.0% (15-30) from three-point range. The Louisiana Lafayette Ragin Cajuns won their 5th straight game and improved to 10-8 (6-3 Sun Belt) on the season after defeating the Texas State Bobcats, 80-54, this past Thursday. Louisiana Lafayette had little trouble with Texas State and was able to cruise to victory after gaining a 35-21 halftime lead. Louisiana Lafayette shot 51.9% from the field and outrebounded Texas State by a 44-18 margin in the victory. The Ragin Cajuns held the Bobcats to 38.0% shooting from the field and 23.1% (3-13) from beyond the arc. Leading the way for Louisiana Lafayette was Shawn Long who had a double-double with 19 points, 14 rebounds, 1 steal, and a block. On the season, the Ragin Cajuns have been led by Shawn Long (18.7 ppg, 12.7 rpg, 1.2 apg, 1.7 bpg), Kasey Shepherd (11.7 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.7 spg), and Jay Wright (9.6 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 4.0 apg). The Ragin Cajuns have a rebound margin of 7.8 and a turnover margin of 0.3.
The Mavericks are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record and 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games overall. The Ragin Cajuns are 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 Saturday games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
UT-Arlington got off to a great start to their season but has struggled as of late losing three of their last four games, including a surprising 88-85 loss to the 8-12 South Alabama Jaguars. Louisiana Lafayette had a tough non-conference schedule but has shown lately why they were the Sun Belt favorites coming into the season as during their five game winning they are beating their opponents by an average of 20.2 ppg. UT-Arlington has struggled on the defensive end as of late and I just don’t see them being able to slow down the Ragin Cajuns offensive led by Shawn Long, and I think Louisiana Lafayette covers this mid-range spread at home.
