The Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles won’t be approaching the top four in the CUSA but they are working to finishing in the upper half of the conference. The Golden Eagles are heading in the right direction with wins in three of four capped off by an 86-70 rout of visiting Texas-San Antonio as a six point favorite on Saturday. The Golden Eagles were in control throughout behind 52% shooting including a 14-28 mark from beyond the arc. The Roadrunners could not keep up the pace on less then 37% with a 4-21 effort on threes. Kourtlin Jackson led USM on 20 points and seven boards with Kejin Blevins adding 14 points and seven pulls. Raheem Watts netted 19 points while Quinton Campbell and Khari Price tossed in 13 and 12 points with Price posting eleven assists.

The goal for the North Texas Mean Green is to climb to the middle of the pack in the CUSA which means they can’t be outscored 80-76. The defense has struggled in five consecutive defeats capped off by a 95-87 loss at Rice as an eight point road underdog on Saturday. Both teams played little defense with the Owls holding a slight 55.6%-52.5% shooting edge with four more bombs and eight more free throws providing the winning margin. Jeremy Combs led all scorers with 25 points and 13 rebounds with J-Mychal Reese adding 23 points and five assists. Eric Katenda followed with 16 points and five yanks while Ja’Michael Brown and Deckie Johnson netted ten points apiece.
