The Marshall Thundering Herd hope to solidify their spot in the CUSA standings with a road win versus the UTEP Miners.
The Marshall Thundering Herd don’t have numbers that jump off the page but they are sitting in the top four of the CUSA. The Thundering Herd saw a two game winning streak end in an 81-78 loss to first place Alabama-Birmingham where a comeback from an eight point hole at the half fell short. The Blazers connected at 47% with Marshall hitting at 42% but staying competitive thanks to eleven makes from beyond the arc. James Kelly poured in a game high 30 points and snagged ten rebounds with Ryan Taylor tossing in 19 points. Stevie Browning added nine points and six boards while Jon Elmore contributed another nine points and totaled seven assists.

I thought the UTEP Miners would challenge for atop four spot in the CUSA but they have been struggling the past several weeks. The Miners have dropped six of seven where the defense has had some issues. The defense had problems in a 78-70 defeat at Louisiana Tech as an 8.5 point underdog. The Bulldogs did their damage in the second half with 41.7% accuracy and a 12-2 edge in long balls which helped overcome the Miners 51% marksmanship. UTEP received a game high 23 points, ten rebounds and nine assists from Dominic Artis with Terry Winn adding 13 points and seven boards. Earvin Morris Jr. and Omega Harris scored ten points apiece while Lee Moore chipped in with eight.
Marshall are 11-2-1 ATS in their last 14 games overall and the over is 7-2 in their last 9 overall while going 7-2 in the Thundering Herd last 9 vs. Conference USA. I have to say Marshall has been playing well but something bothers me laying points here…
