The Citadel Bulldogs possess the best offense in the nation at nearly 89 points but wins have been difficult to come by because they allow 93 points. The Citadel held a brief second half lead but couldn’t hold back 58% shooting Samford which meant their 42% accuracy was a difference of eight field goals. The Furman Paladins are second in the SoCon but realistically need top dog Chattanooga to fall off the map. The Paladins are at their best right now with wins in six of seven after knocking off North Carolina-Greensboro 79-72 on Monday as a 5.5 point favorite. Furman broke open a tie game with a late surge behind 53% marksmanship and nine more free throws to overcome the Spartans 43% accuracy and 14 looks at the basket. Kris Acox led Furman with 15 points and nine rebounds with Stephen Croone netting 17 points. Matt Rafferty added eleven points and eight boards while Geoff Beans and Daniel Fowler tossed in nine points apiece.
