USA TODAY Sports

The Louisiana Lafayette Ragin Cajuns won their 8th straight game and improved to 13-8 (9-3 Sun Belt) on the season after defeating the Appalachian State Mountaineers, 87-76, this past Thursday. Louisiana Lafayette had a 52-35 halftime lead and although the Mountaineers was able to cut that lead to four late in the game, the Ragin Cajuns were able to hang on for the victory. Louisiana Lafayette shot 52.5% from the field however, struggled from the FT line shooting just 52.6% (20-38). The Ragin Cajuns allowed the Mountaineers to shoot 40.3% from the field and 30.0% shooting from three-point range. Leading the way for Louisiana Lafayette was Shawn Long who had a double-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, and a block. On the season, the Ragin Cajuns have been led by Shawn Long (19.3 ppg, 12.9 rpg, 1.9 bpg), Kasey Shepherd (11.1 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 1.6 apg), and Jay Wright (9.6 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 3.8 apg). Offensively, Louisiana Lafayette is averaging 82.0 ppg on 45.7% shooting from the field and 30.9% shooting from beyond the arc. The Ragin Cajuns average 6.6 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 0.98. Defensively, Louisiana Lafayette is allowing their opponents to average 73.5 ppg on 43.0% shooting. The Ragin Cajuns have a rebound margin of 8.1 and average 7.0 steals per game.

The Red Wolves are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 road games. The Ragin Cajuns are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.

Arkansas State has to be disappointed in losing to Tory at home but even with loss, the Red Wolves have shown that they can be competitive this season in the Sun Belt as they are still the only team that has been able to give Arkansas-Little Rock a conference loss. Louisiana Lafayette has been outstanding over the past few weeks and have been crushing Sun Belt opponents as 6 of their 8 wins during their winning streak have been by double-digits. Arkansas State has a great player in Anthony Livingston however, have just a 2-8 record on the road, and as I don’t think the Red Wolves will be able to stop Shawn Long, I think Louisiana Lafayette stays perfect at home and covers this large spread.
