The Northeastern Huskies lost their 6th straight game and dropped to 12-13 (4-8 CAA) on the season after being defeated by the UNC Wilmington Seahawks, 90-73, this past Saturday. Northeastern hung tough with CAA leading Seahawks as they were down by just a 40-39 margin at halftime, however, allowed UNC Wilmington to go on a 20-4 run early in the 2nd half in which they couldn’t recover from. Northeastern shot 50.0% from the field but just 15.4% (2-13) from beyond the arc. The Huskies allowed the Seahawks to shoot 62.7% from the field and 47.4% (9-19) from three-point range. Leading the way for Northeastern was Quincy Ford who had 15 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and a block. On the season, the Huskies have been led by David Walker (18.2 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 4.3 apg, 1.6 spg), Quincy Ford (16.6 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.6 spg), and Zach Stahl (11.3 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 2.3 apg). The Towson Tigers improved to 17-8 (8-4 CAA) on the season after defeating the Elon Phoenix on the road, 81-77, this past Saturday. Towson has trouble slowing down the strong offensive attack of the Phoenix but was able to get a little separation late in the game after taking a 76-71 lead, and was able to hang on for the win. Towson was solid on the offensive end as they shot 50.8% from the field and 73.9% (17-23) from the FT line. The Tigers allowed the Phoenix to shoot 47.2% from the field and outrebounded Elon by a 34-27 margin. Leading the way for Towson was William Adala Moto who had 27 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals, and an assist. On the season, the Tigers have been led by William Adala Moto (14.6 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 1.6 apg), Byron Hawkins (13.4 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 2.1 apg), and Mike Morsell (12.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 2.4 apg). Offensively, Towson is averaging 71.9 ppg on 42.6% shooting from the field and 33.0% shooting from beyond the arc. The Tigers average 5.4 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 0.88. Defensively, Towson is holding their opponents to an average of 66.2 ppg on 40.5% shooting. The Tigers have a rebound margin of 7.3 and average 4.8 blocks per game.
The Huskies are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up loss and 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. The Tigers are 6-14-1 ATS in their last 21 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 home games.
Northeastern was able to get Quincy Ford back into the lineup after missing four games due to injury and although he had a big game, couldn’t help put a stop the Huskies losing streak. Towson is one of the better defensive teams in the country as they rank 52nd in the country in scoring defense, however, have struggled scoring the ball at times against solid defensives. Northeastern was able to get a big win earlier in the season against Miami (FL) on the road however, still have a losing road record, and as I think the Towson defense will be able to contain David Walker and Quincy Ford, I’m picking the Tigers to cover this small home spread. Take Towson to cover.
