The Iona Gaels won their 4th straight game and improved to 17-9 (11-3 MAAC) on the season after defeating the Niagara Purple Eagles, 75-61, this past Sunday. Iona was able to build a 20-point halftime lead in this one and had little trouble cruising to victory in the 2nd half. Iona shot 35.9% from the field and 40.0% (10-25) from beyond the arc. The Gaels held the Purple Eagles to 23.5% (4-17) shooting from beyond the arc and won the turnover battle by a 13-10 margin. Leading the way for Iona was Isaiah Williams who had 21 points, 7 rebounds, and a steal. On the season, the Gaels have been led by A.J. English (21.0 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 6.3 apg, 1.4 spg), Jordan Washington (15.9 ppg, 6.5 rpg), and Isaiah Williams (12.9 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 1.9 apg). The Gaels average 7.3 steals per game and have a turnover ratio of 1.25.
The Saints are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 Saturday games. The Gaels are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall however, just 1-7 ATS in their last 8 home games.
Siena has been a solid this season on both sides of the ball and although they’ve improved on the defense end, they still are allowing teams to be able to put up points against them due to their high amount of turnovers. Iona is still the conference favorite as they are led by the best player in the MAAC in A.J. English. Siena is a good team but they are just 5-8 on the road this season and as the Gaels can force turnovers and have started to get more contributions from players besides A.J. English as of late, I think the Gaels will win this one and cover this small spread.
