USA TODAY Sports

The Illinois State Redbirds won their 3rd straight game and improved to 15-11 (9-4 MVC) on the season after defeating the Evansville Purple Aces, 70-60, this past Thursday. Illinois State used a 12-5 run midway through the 2nd half to take a 58-45 lead and was able to hang on for the victory over the last five minutes of the game. Illinois State shot 40.7% from the field and 93.8% (15-16) from the FT line. The Redbirds held the Purple Aces to 38.0% shooting from the field and outrebounded Evansville by a 39-35 margin. Leading the way for Illinois State was Nick Banyard who had 18 points, 4 rebounds, and a block from off the bench. On the season, the Redbirds have been led by DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell (14.6 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.1 spg), MiKyle McIntosh (11.1 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 1.8 apg), and Paris Lee (10.6 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 3.8 apg, 1.8 spg). Offensively, Illinois State is averaging 67.0 ppg on 40.9% shooting from the field and 33.4% shooting from beyond the arc. The Redbirds average 7.2 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 0.98. Defensively, Illinois State is holding their opponents to average 66.9 ppg on 42.9% shooting. The Redbirds average 6.4 steals per game and have a turnover margin of 1.4.

The Braves are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight up loss and 16-33-2 ATS in their last 51 road games. The Redbirds are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games.

Bradley was able to pick up a surprising win last week over Indiana State but still is one of the weaker teams in the MVC as the Braves have struggled offensively ranking just 346th in the country in scoring defense and 344th in FG%. Illinois State struggled early in the season but has shown as of late their great potential after getting an upset Wichita State at home and Evansville on the road over the past two weeks. This is a monster line however, Illinois State has a great defense that can create turnovers and as I just don’t see Bradley putting up more than 50 points in this one, I’m taking the Redbirds to cover.
