The UC Irvine Anteaters stay in the Big West title chase with a win at Cal State Fullerton.
The UC Irvine Anteaters are right on the heels of Hawaii for the Big West crown and can not afford to lose. The Anteaters will be looking to build on Saturday’s 93-83 victory versus visiting CS Northridge as a 10.5 point favorite where UCI led throughout. The Matadors were held to under 41% with a few more free throws that kept this from getting out of hand but the Anteaters 54.5%shooting equated to six more field goals. Alex Young was the UC Irvine offense with a game high 36 points and five yanks on 14-19 with Mamadou Ndiaye adding 14 points and seven boards. Luke Nelson and Mike Best combined for 17 points with best snagging a team high eight rebounds.

The Cal State Fullerton have struggled in conference play and need to win the Big West playoffs to go to the Big Dance. The Titans have had issues at both ends of the floor in losing nine of ten capped off by a 76-59 defeat at Hawaii as a 16 point underdog. The Warriors led by nine at the half and never let up despite just 39% accuracy. CSF connected at 31.7% and sank five less baskets and four less bombs. Tre Coggins gave the Titans attack 18 points and five yanks on 7-15 with Malcolm Brooks tossing in 13 points on 5-15. Lionheart Leslie netted ten points but the offense needed more scoring and not one player shot 50%.
