The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos visit the UC Riverside Highlanders in a Big West tilt on Thursday.
The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos might be heating up at the perfect time with the end of the season in sight. Time will tell but the Gauchos have won three of four after getting by UC Davis 72-66 as a four point road favorite with a five point lead heading to the locker room holding up. The Aggies held a slight 43%-41.5% shooting edge and nailed 11-22 from beyond the arc but the Gauchos 12 more free throws was a deciding factor. Michael Bryson gave Santa Barbara 16 points and ten rebounds with Gabe Vincent scoring 13. The trio of Sam Beeler, Eric Childress and John Green each scored 12 points and combined for 15 rebounds while eight players scored altogether.

The UC Riverside Highlanders seemed poised to make a run a few short weeks ago win three consecutive wins but have since lost three in a row. The Highlanders come off of an 86-78 home loss to Cal Poly where the Mustangs connected at 47% including 9-20 from distance along with nine more free throws to overcome the 52% marksmanship by UC Riverside who were hurt by a 7-23 performance on three pointers when the two’s were made at a high rate. Taylor Johns was the Highlanders best player with 25 points and ten rebounds on 9-13 with Malik Thames added 17 points and five yanks. Gentry Thomas followed with 13 points while four others contributed between 4-6 points.
