Northern Kentucky was able to cut the Detroit lead to a 69-66 margin late in the game however, couldn’t get any closer in the loss. The Wright State Raiders dropped to 16-12 (10-5 Horizon) on the season after being defeated by the Oakland Golden Grizzlies, 89-73, this past Monday. Wright State’s generally solid defense struggled against the high powered Golden Grizzlies offense and couldn’t mount much of a comeback after falling behind by a 45-39 margin at halftime. Wright State shot 40.4% from the field and loss the turnover battle by an 11-9 margin. The Raiders allowed the Golden Grizzlies to shoot 45.9% from the field and 57.9% (11-19) from beyond the arc. Leading the way for Wright State was Mark Alstork who had 18 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 blocks. On the season, the Raiders have been led by JT Yoho (13.1 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 2.5 apg), Mark Alstork (12.8 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 1.4 apg), and Joe Thomasson (10.1 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 3.4 apg). Offensively, Wright State is averaging 68.1 ppg on 44.5% shooting from the field and 37.4% shooting from beyond the arc. The Raiders average 7.5 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.14. Defensively, Wright State is holding their opponents to an average of 66.4 ppg on 42.7% shooting. The Raiders have a rebound margin of -3.7 and a turnover margin of 1.9.
The Norse are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS loss. The Raiders are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 Saturday games however, just 4-12-1 ATS in their last 17 games following a straight up loss.
Northern Kentucky is only 9-17 on the season but they’ve been more competitive in the Horizon league as they Norse has picked up 5 conference wins in their first year in the Horizon. Wright State has been a hard team to get a full understanding of this season as although they’ve handed Valparaiso their only two losses in conference play, they’ve really struggled against the higher scoring teams in the conference and even picked a loss against the 5-20 UIC Flames. Wright State was able to hold the Norse to just 46 points in their first match on the road and as Northern Kentucky is allowing their opponents to average over 80.0 ppg when they are on the road, I think the Raiders will do enough to cover this spread. Take Wright State to cover.
