The William & Mary Tribe dropped to 18-9 (10-6 CAA) on the season after a shocking loss to the Drexel Dragons, 74-69, this past Saturday. William & Mary was were down by double-digits at one point in the 2nd half and although they were able to cut it to a 70-67 deficit late in the game, Drexel was able to hit enough FT’s to secure the win. William & Mary shot 45.6% from the field but struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just 28.6% (6-21) of their three-pointers. The Tribe allowed the Dragons to shot 41.8% from the field and 61.5% (8-13) from beyond the arc. The Elon Phoenix dropped to 15-14 (6-10 CAA) on the season after being defeated by the Towson Tigers, 67-56, this past Saturday. Elon was down by a 33-26 margin at halftime and couldn’t generate enough offensive in the 2nd half against the tough Towson defense, to get the comeback victory. Elon shot just 31.0% from the field and 24.0% (6-25) from beyond the arc in the loss. The Phoenix allowed the Tigers to shoot 37.3% from the field and was outrebounded by Towson by a 33-23 margin. Leading the way for Elon was Dmitri Thompson who had 13 points, 8 rebounds, 1 block. On the season, the Phoenix have been led by Tanner Samson (12.2 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 2.2 apg), Luke Eddy (10.7 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 4.7 apg), and Tyler Seibring (9.9 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1.8 apg). Offensviely, Elon is averaging 76.9 ppg on 44.7% shooting from the field and 34.4% shooting from beyond the arc. The Phoenix have a rebound margin of -0.8 and a turnover margin of -1.6.
The Tribe are 20-5-1 ATS in their last 26 games following a straight up loss and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 road games. The Phoenix are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up loss and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss.
William & Mary followed up their impressive win at home against the CAA leading UNC Wilmington Seahawks with one of their worst performances of the year, losing to the 3-23 Drexel Dragons at home on Senior Night. Elon has lost 4 of their last 5 games however, has been competitive this season and played many of the top CAA teams to close games. William & Mary had a bad offensive night against Drexel but I see the Tribe’s offensive, which ranks 20th in the country in FG%, having no issues with Elon’s defense and as the Tribe have limited teams to 32.7% three-point shooting, I think William & Mary will be able to do enough in this one to cover this small road spread. Take William & Mary to cover.
