The Georgia Southern Eagles square off with the Appalachian State Mountaineers for the second time.
The Appalachian State Mountaineers have a chance to move up a rung or two in the Sun Belt standings but I’m not sure if that would make a difference in their fortunes. The Mountaineers had suffered through seven consecutive victories before downing Troy 78-74 as a 3.5 point home favorite on Saturday. Both teams sank shots at around 45%with ASU securing the win with 12 bombs and six more free throws. Frank Eaves gave Appalachian State 19 points and five yanks on 6-14 shooting with Emarius Logan next in line with 17 points on 5-9 from the floor. Ronshad Shabazz added 15 points and six pulls while Matt O’Boyle and Griffin Kinney combined for 15 points.

The Georgia Southern Eagles have been flying under the radar for the majority of the season but they sit in 5th in the Sun Belt with time to move into the top four. The Eagles look to build on a 54-52 victory versus visiting Georgia State with a six point lead at the break just enough to win. The Panthers held a 39%-34.7% shooting advantage which added up to four more field goals but GSU sank a decisive 13-4 edge at the charity stripe. Georgia Southern received a team high 21 points and seven boards from Mike Hughes on 7-15 including four bombs. Ike Smith tossed in 12 points while Tookie Brown added eight points and five yanks.
The over is 9-4-1 in Appalachian State last 12 games overall. Georgia Southern are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games overall and are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 vs. Sun Belt while the under is 6-2 in their last 8 overall. The Mountaineers are 2-6 ATS in the last 8 meetings. This game has to be won by the Eagles if they have hopes of grabbing 4th in the Sun Belt…
