The Charleston Cougars lost their 2nd consecutive game and dropped to 16-11 (8-8 CAA) on the season after losing to the UNC Wilmington Seahawks, 59-55 in OT, this past Saturday. Charleston did an outstanding job of containing a very good UNC Wilmington offense throughout the game but was outscored by the Seahawks, Denzel Ingram, in the OT period in the loss. Charleston struggled offensively as they shot just 28.8% from the field and 26.7% (4-15) from beyond the arc. The Cougars held the Seahawks to 37.0% shooting from the field and 22.2% (4-18) from beyond the arc. Leading the way for Charleston was Jarrell Brantley who had a double-double with 11 points, 15 rebounds, 1 block and a steal. On the season, the Cougars have been led by Canyon Barry (19.7 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.3 apg), Cameron Johnson (11.9 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.2 spg), and Marquise Pointer (11.5 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 3.0 apg, 1.2 spg). Offensively, Charleston is averaging 65.8 ppg on 42.3% shooting from the field and 35.2% shooting from beyond the arc. The Cougars average 6.8 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 0.94. Defensively, Charleston is holding their opponents to an average of 61.6 ppg on 42.0% shooting. The Cougars have a rebound margin of 1.0 and a turnover margin of 1.7.

The Northeastern Huskies had their three game winning streak snapped and dropped to 15-14 (7-9 CAA) on the season after being defeated by the Hofstra Pride, 65-60, this past Sunday. Northeastern allowed Hofstra to go on a 17-3 run early in the 1st half to take a 33-22 halftime lead and although the Huskies fought back to make it a 2-point game late, they couldn’t complete the comeback the victory. Northeastern shot just 36.5% from the field and loss the turnover battle by a 15-9 margin. The Huskies held the Pride to just 35.0% shooting from the field and 27.8% (5-18) shooting from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Huskies was Quincy Ford who had a double-double with 15 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, and a block. On the season, the Huskies have been led by David Walker (18.2 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 4.1 apg), Quincy Ford (16.8 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 2.7 apg), and Zach Stahl (10.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 2.3 apg). Offensviely, Northeastern is averaging 73.0 ppg on 43.5% shooting from the field and 37.1% shooting from beyond the arc. The Huskies average 8.9 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.19. Defensively, Northeastern is allowing their opponents to average 72.1 ppg on 46.1% shooting. The Huskies have a rebound margin of -1.2 and average 6.2 steals per game.
The Cougars are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss and 18-41-1 ATS in their last 60 games overall. The Huskies are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following a straight up loss.
Charleston has lost 3 of their last 4 games, however, continue to be competitive when they step on the court as in those three losses, the Cougars have lost by an average of just 3.6 ppg. Northeastern has won 3 of their last 4 and have really started to look like the team we saw earlier this season when both Quincy Ford and David Walker were playing at a high level. Charleston has one of the best defenses in the country as they rank 9th in scoring defense however, the Cougars are just 6-6 on the road this season and I think Northeastern will get big games from Walker and Ford on senior night to cover this small spread. Take Northeastern to cover.
