The Western Carolina Leathernecks won their 2nd straight game and improved to 13-16 (8-8 Southern) on the season after defeating The Citadel Bulldogs, 102-97, this past Saturday. Western Carolina was able to pull away for the Bulldogs late in the 2nd half to take a 100-91 lead and withstood a late charge by the Bulldogs, fueled by back to back three-pointers, to get the win. Western Carolina was outstanding on the offensive end as they shot 58.7% from the field and 50.0% (7-14) from beyond the arc. The Leathernecks held the Bulldogs to 39.0% shooing from the field and outrebounded The Citadel by a 38-30 margin. Leading the way for Western Carolina was Torrion Brummitt who had a double-double with 24 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 blocks, and 2 steals. On the season, Western Carolina has been led by Mike Brown (16.6 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.4 spg), Torrion Brummitt (13.4 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 1.4 apg), and Rhett Harrelson (12.6 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 2.0 apg). The Leathernecks have a rebound margin of -0.4 and average 8.3 steals per game.
The Terriers are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games overall and 35-16 ATS in their last 51 vs. Southern opponents. The Catamounts are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games.
Both teams come into this matchup playing solid basketball as both Wofford and Western Carolina have each won 5 of their last 6 games. Wofford has been outstanding lately on the offensive end as they are averaging 81.6 ppg over their last 5 games and rank 9th in the country in 3P FG%. Western Carolina was able to get a great win over conference favorite, Chattanooga, during their recent span of good play and although they can give up some points, have been great at generating turnovers as they rank 15th in the country in steals per game. Western Carolina is an impressive 10-2 at home this season, however, Wofford was able to easily defeat the Leathernecks by an 85-66 margin earlier in the season and as the Terriers offense is rolling, I think they’ll do enough to cover this small road spread. Take Wofford to cover.
