The Sacramento State Hornets are going to finish near the bottom of the Big Sky standings with high hopes of doing some damage in the playoffs. The Hornets need a change in fortune however with defeats in seven of ten after a 72-67 loss at Northern Colorado as a two point road dog on Thursday. The Hornets led by six at the half before the Bears got great efforts at both ends of the floor over the final 20 minutes to squeeze out the win. Sacramento State held a 45%-42% shooting edge for a few more baskets but Northern Colorado dominated the foul line 24-12. Cody Demps paced the Hornets with 18 points and seven assists on 6-8 with Marcus Graves tossing in 12points on 5-9. Justin Strings and Nick Hornsby followed with a combined 19 points and eleven rebounds.

The North Dakota Fighting Hawks are tied for 4th with two others with three games to play so a loss could end their top four hopes. The Fighting Hawks have won back to back contests after squeezing by Portland State 80-77 as a four point favorite on Thursday. Both teams sank shots in the 46%-47% range with ND making three more free throws as the only real difference in a tight boxscore. Corey Baldwin was the Fighting Hawks savior with a game high 38 points and five yanks on 15-20 with Geno Grandall adding 13 points, six pulls and five assists. Connor Avants and Drick Bernstine scored ten points apiece with Bernstine snagging eight rebounds.
