The Citadel Bulldogs visit the VMI Keydets in the regular season finale’ for both teams.
The Citadel Bulldogs lone chance of success is if their top ranked offense can light up the scoreboard more then opponents. That didn’t happen in a 92-63 defeat at North Carolina-Greensboro on Thursday with the team suffering loss number eight in a row. The Spartans led by 18 at the break and continued the pressure until the final buzzer. The Bulldogs were held to 27% from the floor with UNCG countering at nearly 51% for a difference of eleven field goals. Brian White was the Citadel’s best offensive option with 18 points and five yanks on 4-8 with Derrick Henry adding 13 points and six pulls on 5-13. Warren Sledge tossed in in nine points but the Bulldogs needed more punch at both ends of the floor.

The VMI Keydets are next to last in the SoCon with struggles at both ends of the floor so it was a bit surprising to see the Keydets down Mercer 91-82 Thursday as a seven point home dog. The Keydets made an eleven point first half lead hold up despite a narrow 42%-39% edge in marksmanship. The only real advantage came at the stripe where VMI sank seven more attempts. The Keydets offense was a one man show with QJ Peterson pouring in 46 points and hauling in nine rebounds on 12-25 from the floor with Fred Iruafemi netting 20 points. Tim Marshall was next in line with 17 points on 5-13 from long range. The rest of the team contributed eight points so there wasn’t any balance.
The Citadel are 1-9 ATS in their last 10 games overall and are 1-9 ATS in their last 10 vs. Southern while the over is 8-3 in their last 11 road games. VMI are 5-14 ATS in their last 19 games overall and are 5-13 ATS in their last 18 vs. Southern while the under is 9-4 in VMI last 13 home games. This game is screaming to me saying stay away…
