The UC Irvine Anteaters travel to the UC Davis Aggies in a Big West tilt on Saturday.
The UC Irvine Aggies currently are in second in the Big West behind Hawaii and need to win out and have Hawaii lose to have a shot at the conference crown. The Anteaters have been keeping the pressure on the Warriors with victories in three of four after pounding Long Beach State 90-67 as a 4.5 point home favorite on Wednesday. The Anteaters blew open a competitive contest on the strength of a 48-31 second half burst. UCI burned the nets at 64% including a 12-20 effort on threes while the 49ers simply couldn’t keep pace with 32% from the floor. Luke Nelson led the scoring spree with 25 points on 9-10 with Mamadou Ndaye adding 20 points and nine rebounds. Alex Young tossed in eleven points while Jaron Martin and Mike Best scored ten points each.
USA TODAY Sports
The UCD Davis Aggies sit in 5th in the Big West and need to sweep the remainder of their schedule and get some help in order to move in to the top four. The Aggies have made things difficult on themselves with four consecutive defeats capped off by a 62-55 defeat at UC Santa Barbara as an eleven point road dog. The Aggies held a 39%-33% shooting edge but this game was won at the charity stripe where the Gauchos held an 18-8 edge. UC Davis received 17points and seven boards from Josh Fox on 8-15 with Brynton Lemar adding 16 points and eleven rebounds. Although the Aggies need more scoring punch this was a game that probably slipped through their fingers.
UC Irvine are 11-5 ATS in their last 16 vs. Big West and the under is 53-26-1 in their last 80 overall. The under is 9-1 in UC Davis last 10 home games and is 7-1 in UC Davis last 8 vs. Big West while the Aggies are 12-3 ATS in their last 15 Saturday games. The over is 5-2-1 in the last 8 meetings in UC Davis. Perhaps the Aggies at least cover but I can’t see them winning…
