The Holy Cross Crusaders travel to the Loyola-Maryland Greyhounds in a Patriot League opener.
The Holy Cross Crusaders find themselves in a play in game in the Patriot because of a 5-13 conference record which was next to last. The Crusaders were outscored 71-65 on the season and if they are to advance either the offense needs more punch or the defense needs more stopping power or both things need to happen. Robert Champion leads the team at almost 12 points and five boards with forwards Karl Charles and Malachi Alexander averaging 10.8 points each with a combined nine rebounds. Cullen Hamilton is basically another double digit scorer at 9.6 points so the offense needs each of these guys to do a bit more scoring while getting some quality minutes from their bench which means some scoring.

It wasn’t all that long ago that the Loyola-MD Greyhounds represented the MAAC in the NCAA tournament. Fast forward to this season and the Greyhounds find themselves in a Patriot League opener with a team that has too many defensive issues with the opposition outscoring them 75-70. LMU dropped five of six to close the year and have to be concerned that their play at both ends of the floor were all over the map. Guard Andre Walker led the team with 14 points but was just a .375% shooter although he was also the assist and steals leader. Forward Jarred Jones is the key for me with a 13 point average and a team high seven rebounds but he also hit at 50%. Forwards Franz Rassman, Chancellor Bernard and Cam Gregory each saw between 17-24 minutes with a combined 20 points and 15 boards but shot well over 50% so perhaps these guys can squeeze out more production.
The under is 6-2 in Holy Cross last 8 vs. Patriot League and the under is 7-3 in their last 10 overall. The under is 8-2 in L-MD last 10 overall and L-MD are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 home games. The Greyhounds won both regular season matchups by double figures but Jarred Jones is questionable so backing either is very risky if Jones is out…
