The Stony Brook Sea Wolves host the UMBC Retrievers in the a quarterfinal match up in the America East.
This hasn’t been a season for the record books at 3-13 in the conference and 7-24 overall which landed them in the America East basement. The retrievers score well enough at 72 points but it’s extremely difficult to win when allowing 80 points. The odds are stacked against UMBC who can either score a ton of points or find some defense to pull an upset. The Retrievers do have some competent scoring with one of the top offensive players in the league in Jarius Lyles who averages 23 points and five pulls while Rodney Elliott and Will Darley contributed 13and eleven points respectively. Joe Sherburne gave the team ten points and to give the offense credit they all score and hit the glass.
USA TODAY Sports
The Stony Brook Sea Wolves own the top spot in the America East at 14-3 with an overall 23-6 mark. The Sea Wolves have won the regular season crown in four of the last seven seasons to become the face of the conference. SB has the best combination of scoring and defense in the conference as they outscore the opposition 76-63 with teams held to less then 40% from the floor. Jameel Warney gives the team a bit of everything with nearly 19 points and ten rebounds on 63% shooting while providing interior defense. Carson Puriefoy averaged over 14 points with Rayshaun McGrew and Ahmad Walker combining for 22 points but this team could win with offense or defense.
The over is 7-1 in UMBC last 8 vs. America East. This will a huge spread and will probably equal the margin of victory by Stony Brook in the regular season. No line out but the Sea Wolves decide how bad this gets…
