The #5 Gardner-Webb Bulldogs hope to avoid the upset bid of the #11 Campbell Fighting Camels in a Big South opening round tilt.
The Campbell Fighting Camels are one of the lesser known teams in Division I and their 12-17 record didn’t help their notoriety. The Fighting Camels were 5-13 in league play and were playing their best basketball with four straight wins before losing their last two. Their numbers were similar to many in the Big South as they outscored opponents 74-72 although they were not consistent enough to make an impact in the win column. Campbell has enough offense to compete with leading scorer Chris Clemons pumping in almost 19 points with Trey Harper netting 13.5 points. DJ Mason added ten points and a team high six rebounds but if the four players that average 6-9.6 points can up their game they should be able to score.

The Gardner-Webb Running Bulldogs might not have their strongest team ever as they score 75 and allow 74 points but if they can squeeze just a bit more from both ends of the floor this team isn’t one to be overlooked. The Running Bulldogs finished at 10-8 in the conference and 15-15 altogether with wins in two of three to end the regular season. Whatever damage this team does will likely be because of the efforts of center Tyrell Nelson who averages team highs of almost 14 points, seven boards on 56% shooting Harold McBride gives the team 12 points while the trio of Dylan Poston, Isaiah Ivey and Adonis Burbage each average over nine points to give the offense three more potential double digit scorers.
Campbell are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The over is 6-0-2 in Gardner-Webb last 8 vs. Big South and is 12-2-2 in their last 16 overall while going 6-1-3 in their last 10 neutral site games. The numbers don’t really favor either squad so I’ll go with the higher seed...
