The Charleston Southern Buccaneers battle the Longwood Lancers in a Big South opener.
The Charleston Southern Buccaneers finished tied at the bottom of the Big South with a 5-13 record and an overall 9-20 mark. The Buccaneers were outscored 75-72 and simply struggled to get both ends of the floor on the same page in losses in nine of ten to end the regular season. CSU has a balanced offense with many contributors but they are not explosive and have had issues getting stops at the defensive end. Armel Potter is the best scoring option at 13 points on 38% with Aaron Wheeler and Raemond Robinson both adding 10+ points each. Demetrius Pollard and Patrick Wallace average nine points apiece to give the Buccaneers five potential double digit scorers so the team should score enough but they will need some defense to stay in the playoffs.
USA TODAY Sports
The Longwood Lancers are one of the teams tied for last in the conference at 5-13 with a 9-22 record overall. The Lancers have scoring ability at 72 points but not so much defensive ability with 75 points allowed. Longwood has dropped eight of ten although most have been competitive so they are not far away from a better record. Lotanna Nwogba is the star at nearly 16 points and eight rebounds with Tra’Vaughn White averaging almost 14 points. Darrion Allen, Shaquille Johnson and Kanayo Obi-Rapu Jr. give the Lancers between 10-12 points for five double digit scorers so the offensive potential is in place if the defense can get some stops here and there and make this team dangerous.
Charleston Southern are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 vs. Big Sky. Longwood never does anything easy and when they win it’s always down to the wire so this is one of those games you bet and check on later because it will be nerve wracking…
