The #5 Liberty Flames visit the #4 North Carolina-Asheville Bulldogs in a Big South quarterfinal.
If you look at most of the teams in the Big South you will see that the common thread is a lot of points are scored. The Liberty Flames don’t fit that mold with just 65 points allowed which is ranked near the bottom of the nationally. The defense allows 68 which makes you wonder how they survive. The Flames had won seven of ten to end the regular season to finish 10-8 in the conference but just 13-18 overall. The name of the game is to play at a controlled pace and get a few stops at the defensive end of the floor. John Dawson is key for the offense at 13 points and over five boards while center Evan Maxwell adds ten points and another five pulls. Nine point scorers Lovell Cabbil and Ryan Kemrite could be huge factors if they can up their scoring.

The #4 North Carolina-Asheville Bulldogs are probably one of the lesser known squads in the Big South but their numbers and record speak for themselves. The 19-11 Bulldogs were 12-6 in the conference and could put up solid numbers at both ends of the floor as they outscored the opposition 75-68 and have played well versus some bigger names. On the flip side UNCA was just 2-3 to end the season which might have taken away some of their momentum heading in to the conference playoffs. The offense featured five double digit scorers led by Dylan Smith who averaged 13.5 points but was a volume scorer at 36.5%. Kevin Vannatta and Dwayne Sutton scored around 12 points each with four and seven boards respectively while Sam Hughes and Ahmad Thomas add about eleven points each and a combined eleven rebounds.
Liberty are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games overall and the over is 16-5 in their last 21 overall. The over is 6-1-1 in UNCA last 8 vs. Big South and is 6-2 in their last 8 neutral site games while going 11-5-1 in UNCA last 17 overall. This spread is about dead on so I’ll try the points…
