Pittsburgh was down by a 63-50 margin with just 4:55 remaining and although the Panthers made a strong push in the final minutes, they couldn’t get the comeback victory. Pittsburgh struggled offensively in this one as they shot just 38.9% from the field and 14.3% (3-21) from beyond the arc. The Panthers allowed the Hokies to shoot 44.4% from the field and outrebounded Virginia Tech by a 35-30 margin. Georgia Tech shot 36.7% from the field and 20.0% (4-20) from beyond the arc. The Yellow Jackets held the Cardinals to 36.2% shooting and outrebounded Louisville by a 42-35 margin. Leading the way for Georgia Tech was Charles Mitchell who had a double-double with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 2 steals. On the season, the Yellow Jackets have been led by Marcus Georges-Hunt (16.8 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.9 apg), Adam Smith (14.4 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 2.0 apg), and Charles Mitchell (10.4 ppg, 9.9 rpg). The Panthers are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games following a ATS loss and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Saturday games. The Yellow Jackets are 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a ATS win.
Pittsburgh got a huge win against Duke last week but probably are once again on the bubble after their loss to Virginia Tech. Pittsurgh has had difficulty on the road this season as they’ve posted just a 3-5 record away from home. Georgia Tech has played some of their best basketball of the season as of late as they’ve won 4 of their last 5 games and gave Louisville all they could handle on the Cardinals home court. The Yellow Jackets have a 12-5 record at home this season however, I think Pittsburgh has the size down low to have an advantage in the post and as long as they protect the ball, I think coach Dixon and the Panthers get the big victory to boost their NCAA Tournament hopes.
