The East Carolina Pirates improved to 12-18 (4-13 AAC) on the season after defeating the South Florida Bulls, 52-39, this past Wednesday. East Carolina was able to get out to a quick 15-7 lead and had little trouble finishing off the Bulls in the 2nd half after extending their lead to a 43-25 margin with just under ten minutes to play. East Carolina shot 36.0% from the field and outrebounded South Florida by a 40-38 margin. The Pirates were outstanding on the defensive end as they held the Bulls to 27.8% shooting and 6.7% (1-15) from beyond the arc. Leading the way for East Carolina was Caleb White who had 12 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and a block. On the season, the Pirates have been led by B.J. Tyson (14.6 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2.5 apg, 1.0 bpg), Caleb White (12.6 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 2.5 apg), and Kentrell Barkley (10.7 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 3.1 apg). Offensively, East Carolina is averaging 68.9 ppg on 42.9% shooting from the field and 35.3% shooting from beyond the arc. The Pirates average 7.4 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.16. Defensively, East Carolina is allowing their opponents to average 71.6 ppg on 44.5% shooting. The Pirates have a rebound margin of -2.2 and average 5.8 steals per game.
The Tigers are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Pirates are 9-1-1 ATS in their last 11 games following a straight up win and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
Memphis has lost 5 of their last 7 games and has really struggled on the road this season as they’ve posed just a 1-8 record away from home. East Carolina has also had difficulties during the 2nd half of their conference schedule as they’ve only won of 2 of their last 9 games and has averaged just 60.4 ppg on the offensive end during their last five games. Memphis has talent to complete but not much leadership and haven’t seem to recover from the surprising transfer of Austin Nichols during the offseason. East Carolina was able to defeat Temple at home and Memphis on the road this season and as the Tigers are allowing their opponents to average 83.7ppg when they are the road, I think the Pirates will be able to at worse cover in this one. Take East Carolina and the points.
