The North Carolina-Asheville Bulldogs square off with the Winthrop Eagles for the Big South title on Sunday.
The North Carolina-Asheville Bulldogs have been impressive in the Big South postseason after a double digit win in the semifinals to advance to the conference title game. The Bulldogs took a 13 point lead in to the locker room and then matched scores the rest of the way in an 80-69 victory versus High Point on Saturday. The Bulldogs were strong at both ends of the floor with 45% shooting and six more looks totaling seven more field goals versus the 37% accuracy of the Panthers. Dylan Smith and Ahmad Thomas paced the North Carolina-Asheville offense with 18 points apiece with Thomas posting five yanks and five steals. Dwayne Sutton added 13 points and ten rebounds while Sam Hughes netted 13 points and snagged seven boards.

The Winthrop Eagles proved why they were the top team in the Big South as they turned on the Jets in the second half of Saturday’s 82-69 victory versus Gardner-Webb. The Eagles closed the game on a 53-40 run to break a tie contest as a five point favorite. The Running Bulldogs were held to less then 35% from the floor while Winthrop sank shots at 44% with 15 more free throws to negate 24 more Gardner-Webb shots. The tandem of Xavier Cooks and Jimmy Gavin pumped in 23 points apiece and combined for ten boards with Duby Okeke adding eleven points and eight rebounds. Josh Davenport chipped in with seven points and hauled in eleven rebounds in an explosive and balanced attack.
