The Alabama A&M Bulldogs look to end the reign of the Texas Southern Bulldogs.
On paper I thought the Alabama A&M Bulldogs had an edge versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff and a 61-53 victory says they did although this game was closer then the final score. The Golden Lions shot the ball better at 38.8%-32.7% but this game was won at the charity stripe where the Bulldogs held a 23-12 advantage with the Golden Lions missing ten freebies. Ladarius Tabb paced the Alabama A&M attack with 17 points and 12 rebounds on 7-17 from the floor with three long balls with Nicholas West adding 14 points and nine boards whileRakiya Battle chipped in with nine points, five yanks and eight helpers for basically a three man game.

The Texas Southern Tigers are probably the face of the SWAC with their winning the conference a season ago and heading to the NCAA’s. The Tigers were the best the conference had to offer once again with a 17-13 record and a 16-2 league mark which was three games ahead of second seed Alcorn State. The Tigers outscored the opposition 73-70 but played above these numbers during an 8-2 finish to the regular season. It’s difficult to say this team needs to do nothing different given given the results this team has achieved but that looks to be the case. If the defense performs competitively then 15 point scorers Malcolm Riley and Chris Thomas and a combined 10+ rebounds need to be matched. Derrick Griffin and David Blanks average 13 and 10.5 points respectively with Griffin hauling in eleven boards to give the Tigers plenty of threats.
Texas Southern will be a substantial favorite because they dominated the regular season but I’m sure they will get the Bulldogs best shot. The danger is the Tigers are not focused and look past this game…
