The UC Davis Aggies meet the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos in a Big West quarterfinal bout Thursday.
The UC Davis Aggies were the team to beat in the Big West a season ago but were unable to match that success with too much talent leaving. The Aggies finished 5th at 6-10 and also struggled out of conference with an 11-18 record. The name of the game for UCD was to control the scoreboard as they were outscored 65-64. The problem is the Aggies did control the scoreboard and still had some issues because scoring was difficult to come by. The Aggies dropped six of seven to end the year and if they are going to make a run then points will be needed to help out the ‘D’. Josh Fox is the big gun on offense with nearly 15 points and seven boards with ten point scorers Darius Graham and Brynton Lemar needing to up their production.

The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos were just one of four teams to have a winning record so they knew a top four finish was theirs. The Gauchos were 17-12 altogether and were 11-5 in the conference and if you want momentum the Gauchos have it with eight consecutive victories. Opponents were outscored 71-67 but UCSB easily exceeded these numbers over the last month or so. If the Gauchos play as they did down the stretch then I don’t know what this team needs except to avoid a scoring slump. Michael Bryson was one of the top players in the Big West at 18 points and six rebounds with Gabe Vincent and John Green adding over 13 points and eleven points respectively while several others can reach DD without warning.
UC Davis are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 Thursday games and the under is 36-17 in their last 53 overall. The under is 24-9 in UCSB last 33 neutral site games. The Aggies are 4-10-1 ATS in the last 15 meetings. My gut says too many points but I’ll take the hot team and watch…
