The Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros look for their first postseason win versus the Seattle Redhawks.
The Texas Rio Grand Valley Vaqueros were 4-10 in the conference and 8-21 overall with a year of experience in Div. I basketball and an eye towards the future. The offense produced around 70 points but struggled the most at the defensive end of the floor with nearly 78 points given up on over 45% accuracy. The Vaqueros lost eight of ten to end the regular season where the offense didn’t come close to their season average and that can’t happen in the playoffs with the ‘D’ also having issues. Despite their record Rio Grande has some decent scoring potential led by Shaquille Hines with 14 points and over five boards while Antonio Green, Dakota Slaughter and JJ Thompson tossing in 11-12 points and they need to up their production.

The Seattle Redhawks are trying to get some recognition for their basketball program and a surefire way is to win the conference tournament and head to the Big Dance. The Redhawks captured 4th in the WAC at 7-7 and were 13-15 overall as they were outscored 67-65 so right off the bat we know this team needs to control the scoreboard to win in the postseason. Seattle appeared to be picking up steam as they entered the final month of the season with five straight wins but then dropped four of five to lose out on a winning record. Brendan Westendorf and Jack Crook lead the attack with 12 and ten points and a combined eleven rebounds and if this duo and nine point scorers Manroop Clair and William Powell can squeeze out a few more points and get the team in the 70’s their chances would be much better.
The under is 8-3 in Seattle last 11 vs. Western Athletic. Seattle plays better defense but was awful the last few weeks of the season so pick your poison or look elsewhere…
