The Southern Jaguars had one of the more impressive performances in the Southland postseason when they dominated both ends of the floor in an 83-63 rout of Alabama State in the quarterfinals. The Jaguars opened up a 14 point lead heading to the locker room and never let up as just a two point favorite. The Hornets were stymied on 32.8% shooting with Southern countering with over 49% from the floor for a decisive nine more field goals. Adrian Rodgers poured in a contest high 22 points and snared eight rebounds with Jared Sam and Trelum Banks tossing in 13 points apiece and snagging five boards each. Chris Thomas and Christopher Hyder combined for 17 points with virtually everyone scoring.

The Texas Southern Tigers dreams of heading to the Big Dance again were alive and well following a 77-69 victory versus Alabama A&M in the SWAC quarterfinals. The Tigers did look sluggish for a team that dominated the conference before pulling away late as a 10.5 point favorite. The defense did their job with the Bulldogs hitting at less then 42% with the Tigers responding with 45.6% accuracy with a 17-9 effort at the stripe being the deciding factor. Texas Southern received a game high 22 points and five yanks from Malcolm Riley on 8-15 with four 3’s while Chris Thomas added 17 points, seven boards and five assists. Jose Rodriguez pumped in 16 points with Derrick Griffin chipping in ten points and hauling in eleven rebounds.
The under is 8-2 in Southern last 10 overall and is 7-2 in their last 9 neutral site games. These teams split during the season so both know they can win but this line will be interesting when it comes out…
