The Line: South Carolina Gamecocks -17 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The High Point Panthers go on the road to face the South Carolina Gamecocks in an NIT opener.
The High Point Panthers finished second in the Big South but fell to North Carolina-Asheville in the semifinals to end up with a 22-10 record which was good enough to get an invitation to the NIT. This was a fast paces squad that was score first at nearly 78 points on over 48% while allowing 70 points on 44.8% shooting. If the Panthers succeed it’s likely their offense has put up some big numbers but they will definitely miss John Brown and his team highs of 19 points and seven rebounds who hurt his ankle before conference playoffs. Second leading score Adam Weary is listed as questionable with a knee his and his 12 points will be missed even more so somehow some role players will need to produce.

The South Carolina Gamecocks were on the outside looking in at the NCAA tournament despite a third place finish and hefty 24-8 record. Defeats in three of four to close the season probably did them in in what wasn’t considered a great season for the SEC as a whole. The Gamecocks produced some solid numbers as opponents were outscored 76-69 with 39.5% shooting allowed so this team could win at both ends of the floor on paper. The Gamecocks could be shorthanded offensively with leading scorer and rebounder Michael Carrera hurting his hip and leaving 14.5 points and 7.7 boards in question. Can Sindarius Thornwell (13 ppg), Duane Notice (11 ppg) and Mindaugas Kacinas (10 ppg) pick up the slack?
High Point are 6-17 ATS in their last 23 games overall. South Carolina are 15 ATS in their last 20 home games and the under is 6-2 in South Carolina last 8 Tuesday games while going 15-7 in their last 22 non-conference games. Both teams have players out or listed as questionable so I don’t know if I’d bet this game with the unknowns…
