The Atlantic Ten and the Big Ten collide when the #10 Temple Owls square off with the Iowa Hawkeyes on Friday.
The Temple Owls sort of surprised me by winning the AAC regular season championship and disappointed me as a fan with their semifinal loss to Connecticut in the conference semifinals. The Owls were very successful for a team that scored around 68 points and gave up 67 as the numbers suggest there was little room for error although the team wasn’t involved in an excessive amount of close contests. However this team need to be productive at the offensive end with Quenton DeCosey (15.6 ppg), Obi Enechhionyia (11.2 ppg) and Jaylen Bond 10.2 ppg) each needing to carry the scoring load.

The Iowa Hawkeyes were a top 25 team before struggling down the stretch with defeats in five of six including a first round boot in the conference postseason by Illinois. Even though the Hawkeyes outscored the opposition 78-68.7 the team struggled for consistency at both ends of the floor in the closing weeks. We could debate which area the Hawkeyes struggled in the most in the final month but I’ll simply say the team will be fine if the offense produces. That means star Jarrod Uthoff with his 19 points and six boards must be there while Peter Jok and his 16 points are also a must to give Iowa a great one, two punch.
Temple are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 Friday games and are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 vs. Big Ten. Iowa are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games overall and the under is 10-3 in their last 13 neutral site games while the Hawkeyes are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Friday games. I just don't like th match up for the Owls here...
