The Cincinnati Bearcats will look to contain the scoring of the St. Joseph’s Hawks.
The Cincinnati Bearcats were not expected to be a factor in the American but a 4th place finish in the conference was not too shabby although a four overtime loss to Connecticut in the playoffs might have robbed them of a postseason championship. The Bearcats are a middle of the row offensive team at 73 points but made their living at the defensive end of the floor with 63 points allowed on 39% accuracy which was top ten material. Cincinnati will continue to rely on their ‘D’ but Troy Caupain and his 13 points and Fared Cobb, Gary Clark and Octavius Ellis and their 10+ points will all be needed.

The St. Joseph’s Hawks were not the preseason favorite in the Atlantic Ten but a 4th place finish and a postseason championship makes for an outstanding year. The Hawks were not shutdown defensively at 70 points given up but that was more then good enough with a consistent offense scoring 77.6 points on over 45%. St. Joes probably won’t win in the NCAA’s on their defense but the offense has been clutch the majority of the season and will need to be going forward. The Hawks possessed one of the best tandems in the Atlantic Ten in Isaiah Miles and DeAndre Bembry scoring 18 and 17 points respectively and that has to continue.
The under is 39-12 in Cincinnati last 51 non-conference games and is 16-5 in their last 21 neutral site games while the Bearcats are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 Friday games. The over is 11-2 in St. Joseph’s last 13 overall and the Hawks are 21-7-1 ATS in their last 29 games overall while going 20-7-1 ATS in their last 28 Friday games. I think the play of the Hawks big men on the perimeter will be the key…
