The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers battle the New Hampshire Wildcats in the CIT Saturday.
The New Hampshire Wildcats dreams of an NCAA appearance ended with a loss to Vermont in the America East playoffs but the team bounced back nicely with a 77-62 rout of Fairfield in their CIT opener. The Wildcats jumped to a 17 point lead after 20 minutes and were never challenged as a five point underdog. The potent Stags attack was limited to just 31.8% including 4-29 from long range while UNH countered at nearly 45% and a 10-22 effort on threes. Jaleen Smith led the Wildcats with 22 points and six pulls with Daniel Dion and Tanner Leissner netting 15 points each with Leissner grabbing eight boards. Jacoby Armstrong added ten points and nine more boards while Iba Camara hauled in eleven rebounds.

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers shook off the disappointment of losing in the Big South tournament by downing Mercer 65-57 as a 6.5 point favorite in a CIT first round match up. The Chanticleers outscored the Bears 40-31 in the second half with a late run. Neither team lit up the scoreboard with both hitting at around 36% with a 4-22 mark from distance hurting Mercer while Coastal Carolina nailed five more free throws and a few more threes. Elijah Wilson paced the Chanticleers attack with 18 points followed by a 16 point performance from Jaylen Wilson. Shivaughn Wiggins and Badou Diagne combined for 17 points with Badou snagging eight rebounds.
The under is 8-3 in Coastal Carolina last 11 home games and the Chanticleers are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 home games. It’s hard to get a grip on teams that never get lined and even tougher when they face off with each other for the first time so I’ll take the points and keep my fingers crossed that the Wildcats at least show up…
