The New Jersey Tech Highlanders wasn’t playing their best basketball down the stretch so their CIT opener against Army had some questions surrounding it. The Highlanders answered them all with a complete effort at both ends of the floor in a 79-65 victory. NJIT took a three point lead in to the locker room before slowly pulling away over the final 20 minutes as a 3.5 point favorite. The Black Knights never found the shooting touch at 39% while NJIT connected at 47% with six more field goals and six more free throws. The Highlanders received 18 points from Terrence Smith on 8-10 followed by a 16 point, 14 rebound performance from Tim Coleman. Damon Lee added another 16 points with seven helpers with Rob Ukawuba netting 13 points.
These teams met early in the season with New Jersey Tech winning but I have struggled to find an identity for either at times. It seems Boston U might have some added motivation here and the Highlanders weren’t great in the final weeks but I’m leaning to them…
