The Northwestern State Demons and Texas A&M Aggies open the 2016-17 college basketball season Friday night at the Reed Arena.
The Northwestern State Demons have nowhere to go but up after winning just eight games last season. Jalan West returns after averaging 25 points and six assists while Zeek Woodley averaged 22.2 points and 5.2 rebounds. Sabri Thompson was a third double-digit scorer and Ishmael Lane averaged 5.6 rebounds per game. Northwestern State looked like a team that could be in for a huge bounce back season but will likely be without West once again after another major injury. Even without one of the top players in the Southland, the Demons do return majority of last years production and have four key seniors leading the way. This could be an interesting season for the Northwestern State Demons. The Northwestern State Demons have lost four straight road games.

The Texas A&M Aggies have increased expectations after winning 28 games last season and making the Sweet 16. Tyler Davis returns after averaging 11.3 points and 6.2 rebounds while Tonny Trocha-Morelos averaged seven points and 4.2 rebounds. Admon Gilder grabbed 2.3 rebounds per game and DJ Hogg shot 38.2 percent from the field. Texas A&M has the large task of replacing guys such as Alex Caruso, Danuel House and Jalen Jones, but there is a decent nucleus in place and the addition of JC Hampton helps the Aggies in a big way. The Texas A&M Aggies should still be one of the better teams in the SEC this season with this core in place. The Texas A&M Aggies have won four straight home games.
The Demons are 4-12 ATS in their last 16 non-conference games and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 Friday games. The over is 5-2 in Aggies last 7 overall and the over is 7-2 in Demons last 9 overall.
There's no line on this game just yet, but Texas A&M should have little trouble winning by at least 15-20 points. The Northwestern State Demons are once again without one of their top players due to injury and that puts the rest of the team once again behind the 8 ball. The Demons should be better than last season, but hanging with Texas A&M on the road is too much to ask. The Aggies will once again make a run towards the big dance.
