The Utah State Aggies will travel to the Bren Events Center to take on the UC Irvine Anteaters this Friday night in College Basketball action.
Utah State had nothing more than an average season in their 1st season under Coach Tim Duryea, however, with a bigger roster and one of the best players in the Mountain West, Utah State does have the potential to be one of the better teams in the conference by the end of the season. Utah State lost G Chris Smith (15.0 ppg, 5.3 rpg) and Lew Evans (8.4 ppg, 5.6 rpg) however, the Aggies do return G Jalen Moore (15.2 ppg, 6.0 rpg) who is one of the favorites to be the Mountain West player of the year this season. Also returning for the Aggies is point-guard Shane Rector (9.3 ppg, 3.3 apg) and lock-down defender Julion Pearre (8.0 ppg, 1.7 rpg). Utah State didn’t have much size last season but with the additions of Ngor Barnaba, Daron Henson, and Norbert Janicek, the Aggies should be improve on their 145th ranked rebounding margin from last season. Utah State also was able to bring in one top-100 recruit in G Koby McEwen who Coach Duryea will hope make an immediate impact for the Aggies.
USA TODAY Sports
The UC Irvine Anteaters enter the 2015-16 have one of the best players in the Big West in Luke Nelson, but for the Anteaters to once again contend in the Big West, Coach Russell Turner will need some players from their incoming class to make an immediate impact. Coach Turner lost four starts from last year’s team in C Mamadou Ndiaye (12.1 ppg, 7.2 rpg), Alex Young (10.5 ppg, 4.3 apg), Mike Best (9.8 ppg, 5.1 rpg), and Dominique Dunning (2.9 ppg, 2.7 rpg). Senior Luke Nelson (13.7 ppg, 3.9 apg) is a preseason All-Big West Conference pick and will be the focal point of the Anteaters offense this season. Coach Turner will hope that Jaron Martian (8.3 ppg, 1.2 apg) and Ioannis Dimakopoulos (5.2 ppg, 2.6 rpg) will continue to develop and that incoming freshman Eyassu Worku will be able to provide some scoring punch for the Anteaters.
The Aggies are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 Friday games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. Over is 6-1 in Anteaters last 7 home games however, the Under is 25-9 in the Anteaters last 34 non-conference games.
UC Irvine has one of the best players in the Big West in Luke Wilson and generally is a very tough home team however, as the Anteaters outside of Wilson are pretty inexperienced and for the fact I think Jalen Moore and Utah State will have a great season in the Mountain West, I’m taking the Aggies to cover with the points on the road. Take Utah State to cover.
