The Appalachian State Mountaineers won just nine games last season and hope a third year under coach Jim Fox can be the year of real progress. Ronshad Shabazz returns after averaging 11.9 points and 3.6 rebounds while Griffin Kinney averaged 6.3 points and 4.7 rebounds. Emarius Logan dished 1.2 assists per game and Tyrell Johnson grabbed 4.1 rebounds per game. Appalachian State lost its top player in Frank Eaves but does have a potential stud in Shabazz and a young roster that’s eager to prove the critics young. The Appalachian State Mountaineers are still extremely inexperienced with just one senior on the roster and four upperclassmen overall. This could be another season filled with growing pains for Appalachian State. The Appalachian State Mountaineers have lost five straight road games.

The Davidson Wildcats have won 44 games in two years under coach Bob McKillop and hope they can return to the NCAA Tournament. Jack Gibbs returns after averaging 23.5 points and 4.9 assists while Peyton Aldridge averaged 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds. Jordan Watkins dished 1.1 assists per game and Nathan Ekwu grabbed 5.9 rebounds per game. Davidson returns its top two players from last season, including Gibbs, who is one of the top scorers in all of college basketball. Yes, the Davidson Wildcats did lose some depth and will need to find roll players to step up, but there’s no reason McKillop’s team can’t compete for an A-10 title and make a run for the big dance. The Davidson Wildcats have won five straight home games.
The Mountaineers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Mountaineers are 7-1-1 ATS in the last 9 meetings in Davidson and 6-2-1 ATS in the last 9 meetings overall.
Appalachian State is a very inexperienced team and that's not what you want going on the road to play a team like the Davidson Wildcats. Davidson has elite scorers and is a team that could make a run in the NCAA Tournament this season. The Wildcats have should little trouble winning this game in a blowout. The Mountaineers just aren't ready for this type of matchup.
