The Charleston Cougars will travel to The HTC Center to take on the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers this Monday night in College Basketball action.
The Charleston Cougars opened their season with a victory after defeating The Citadel Bulldogs, 81-68, this past Friday. Charleston was outstanding on the defensive end as they held the Bulldogs to just 29.9% shooting from the field and forced The Citadel into committing 22 turnovers. Leading the way for Charleston was Joe Chealey who had 24 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and a steal. Charleston finished last season with a 17-14 record and was one of the best defensive teams in the country as they held their opponents to an average of just 62.0 ppg. Charleston could be in line for a big year as they didn’t lose one starter over the offseason and got back Joe Chealey who was lost for the season due to injury. Charleston will be led this season by Jarrell Brantley (11.6 ppg, 7.3 rpg), Marquise Pointer (11.2 ppg, 2.9 apg), Cameron Johnson (12.3 ppg, 3.5 rpg), and Joe Chealey.

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers dropped their season opener after being defeated by the Alabama Crimson Tide, 70-53, this past Friday. Coastal Carolina played Alabama tough but struggled in the 2nd half after taking a 33-27 halftime lead. Coastal Carolina shot just 27.4% from the field and committed 13 turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for Chanticleers was Colton Ray-St Cyr who had 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Coastal Carolina and Head Coach Cliff Ellis will take their fast-paced offense to the Sun Belt Conference this season. Coastal Carolina lost three starters from last year’s 21-12 team however, do return two of their best players in Elijah Wilson (13.7 ppg, 4.0 rpg) and Jaylen Shaw (11.1 ppg, 2.3 rpg). Coastal Carolina will hope Colton Ray-St Cyr will take on a bigger role this season and that newcomers Amidou Bamba and Demario Beck provide immediate contributions for the Chanticleers.
The Cougars are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games following a ATS loss and 20-44-1 ATS in their last 65 games overall. The Chanticleers are 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record however, just 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall.
Charleston relies on their defense to win games however, Coastal Carolina knows how to score the basketball and as I liked what I saw from the Chanticleers on the road against Alabama, I think Coastal Carolina will be able to do enough in this one to cover with the points. Take Coastal Carolina and the points.
