The Detroit Titans will travel to the Freedom Hall civic Center to take on the East Tennessee State Buccaneers this Sunday night in College Basketball action.
The Detroit Titans started their season off on a good note after defeating the Adrian College Bulldogs, 99-69, this past Friday. The D-III Adrian College gave Detroit all they could handle in the 1st half as the Bulldogs were down by just a 39-38 margin at halftime, however, Detroit used a big run in the 2nd half to create some separation and pulled away for the blowout victory. Leading the way for Detroit was led by Jarod Williams who had a double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and an assist. Detroit hired former player Bacari Alexander to take on the coach duties for the Titans this season and he will have some pieces to work with as Chris Jenkins (12.0 ppg, 5.7 rpg), Jaleel Hogan (10.5 ppg, 4.2 rpg), and Josh McFolley (8.5 ppg, 1.5 rpg) who starter for the Titans last season all return. Detroit will have to find ways to make up the production of Anton Wilson (14.3 ppg, 3.9 rpg) who graduated and Paris Bass (14.3 ppg, 3.9 rpg) who decided to leave the time.

The East Tennessee State Buccaneers picked up an impressive win in their season opener after defeating the Fordham Rams, 96-59, this past Friday. East Tennessee State was outstanding on both sides of the court and shot a remarkable 63.3% from the field and 52.2% (12-23) from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Buccaneers was David Burrell who had 21 points on 8 for 8 shooting do go along with 6 rebounds and 2 steals. East Tennessee State lost Ge’Lawn Guyn (18.5 ppg, 4.0 rpg) and two other starters from last year’s 24-12 team however, did return T.J. Cromer (14.9 ppg, 3.4 rpg) and Isaac Banks (6.1 ppg, 6.0 rpg). Along with the addition of David Burrell and T.J. Cromer, East Tennessee State will hope that returning guard, A.J. Merriweather (7.1 ppg, 3.6 rpg) can continue to improve with an opportunity to be in the starting five.
The Titans are 2-6-1 ATS in their last 9 money games and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 game overall. The Buccaneers are 6-0 ATSS in their last 5 home games and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games.
Detroit lost two of their better players in the offseason and although the Titans still should be able to score the basketball, Detroit will need to improve on the defensive end as they had one of the worst scoring defenses last season at 82.8 ppg. East Tennessee State is one of the better teams in the Sothern conference and have one of the best players in the conference in T.J. Cromer. This is a pretty big spread however, East Tennessee State generally plays very well at home and as Detroit did struggle for about half the game against a D-III school, I’m going take the Buccaneers to cover the spread here. Take East Tennessee State.
