The St. John’s Red Storm and the Binghamton Bearcats get things started early on Monday in college basketball action.
The St. John’s Red Storm got their season started off in a big way as the routed Bethune-Cookman 100-53 in their opener. St. John’s opened with a 16-point lead at the half and then outscored their opponent by 31 in the second half shooting a blistering 62.3 percent from the floor for the game including 50 percent from beyond the 3-point arc. Frederco Mussini led the Red storm with 20 points in just 18 minutes. Marcus LoVett had 19 points and 7 assists for St. John’s and Malik Ellison and Yankuba Sima each had 11 points. St. John’s didn’t face much competition in their opener and they step it up a notch here.

The Binghamton Bearcats opened their season in a strong way rallying in the second half to beat Cornell. Binghamton trailed at the half by 3 points and then dominated the 2nd half outscoring the Big Red by 9 to get the victory. The Bearcats shot 39.7 percent from the floor and 36.8 percent from beyond the 3-point arc and took advantage of Cornell’s 13.8 percent shooting from 3-point land. J.C. show led Binghamton with 23 points and 6 rebounds in 32 minutes of action. Dusan Perovic had 14 point and 5 rebounds for the Bearcats and Everson Davis, Timmy Rose, and Farad Muhammad each had 6 points. This is a step up for Binghamton but a win here and they are off to a solid start to the season.
St. John’s is 1-6 against the spread in their last 7 non-conference games, 2-6 against the spread following a win, and 1-5 against the spread after scoring more than 90 points in their previous game. Binghamton is 9-3-1 against the spread in their last 13 road games, 9-4-1 against the spread in their last 14 games overall, and 7-3 against the spread on the road against a team with a winning home record.
I am not sold on St. John’s at this point and at very best they should hope to escape with a win here. This looks like a lot of points and I will take them with Binghamton.
