The Southern Miss Golden Eagles look to pull off a massive upset when they head to Baton Rouge to take on the LSU Tigers on Tuesday night.
The Southern Miss Golden Eagles almost had a disastrous start to their season, however they eked out a 5-point overtime win over NAIA foe Tougaloo by a final score of 101-96. 7 different Golden Eagles recorded double figures in the scoring column, with Raheem Watts leading the way after pouring in 15 points on 6 for 8 shooting, including a pair of free throws and a 3-pointer. Cortez Edwards, Eddie Davis III and D’Angelo Richardson each poured in 14 points, while following closely behind was Kevin Holland and Quinton Campbell with 13 points and bringing up the rear of the double-digit train was Tim Rowe who poured in 10 points. It was Davis and Watts however that both came within one rebound of recording a double-double on the night as each recorded a team-high 9 boards. As a team, Southern Miss is shooting 56.7% from the field, including 50% from 3-point range and 70.3% from the charity stripe.

The LSU Tigers got the ball rolling with a big 91-69 victory over the Wofford Terriers. Freshman Duop Reath made quite the impact in his first game as a Tiger, logging 23 points on 9 for 13 shooting while also tallying 14 rebounds for the double-double. Aaron Epps followed closely behind, flirting with a double-double of his own as he connected on 7 of 10 from the floor, including 3 of 4 from behind the arc for a total of 17 points and 9 rebounds. Including Reath and Epps, a total of 5 LSU players had at least 10 points in the win, with Wayde Sims connecting on 5 of 7 shots, including a pair of 3s for his 13-point night, while Antonio Blakeney and Skylar Mays each had 10 points. Blakeney struggled getting them though, as he only managed to make 2 of his 11 field goal attempts, but made up for it by making all 6 of his free throws in the game. As a team, LSU is shooting 51.5% from the floor, 28.6% from downtown and 81% from the foul line.
Southern Miss is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 Tuesday games while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 overall. LSU is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. C-USA and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 home games while the under is 7-1 in their last 8 Tuesday games.
I know I kind of crapped on LSU in the first game, but the fact of the matter is they took care of Wofford handily and now they take on a Southern Miss team that could barely beat an NAIA team. LSU and the big line has to be the play here as this could be over in the first half.
