The Murray State Racers will travel to the Murphy Athletic Center to take on the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders this Tuesday night in College Basketball action.
The Murray State Racers opened up their season was a tough 73-70 victory over the Illinois State Redbirds this past Friday. Murray State came back from a 62-55 deficit late in the contest and won the game with a Jonathan Stark three-pointer with 1.5 seconds left in regulation. Murray State shot 41.4% from the field and 36.4% (12-33) from beyond the arc and forced the Redbirds into committing 18 turnovers. Leading the way for the Murray State was Jonathan Stark who had 19 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Murray State won only 17 games last season, which was their lowest win-total in their last 9 seasons, however the Racers should be once again contenders in the OVC as they return starters in Bryce Jones (12.7 ppg, 4.0 rpg), Damarcus Croaker (9.6 ppg, 4.5 rpg) and will hope for major impacts from newcomers Terrell Miller Jr. and Jonathan Stark.

The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders opened up the entire College Basketball season last Friday with an impressive 102-64 victory over the Milligan Buffaloes. Middle Tennessee had no trouble disposing of Milligan and cruised to victory after taking a 51-29 halftime lead. Middle Tennessee shot 55.7% from the field and outrebounded the Buffaloes by a 49-29 margin. Leading the way for Middle Tennessee was Reggie Upshaw who had a double-double with 21 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists, and a block. Middle Tennessee finished last season with an impressive 25-10 record and became well known in the NCAA tournament after knocking out the Michigan State Spartans in the 1st round. The Blue Raiders lost Perrin Buford (12.0 ppg, 5.9 rpg) and Darnell Harris (11.7 ppg, 4.0 rpg), but do return two of the better players in the C-USA in Giddy Potts (14.9 ppg, 5.4 rpg) and Reggie Upshaw (13.7 ppg, 8.5 rpg). Middle Tennessee will hope that Arkansas transfer, Jacorey Williams, can be an impact player downlow for the Blue Raiders.
The Racers are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 Tuesday games however, just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games. The Blue Raiders are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. OVC opponents.
Murray State struggled a bit last year but the Racers look as if they will once again be a 20-win team and must be thrilled form the production they got from newcomers Terrell Miller Jr. and Jonathan Stark in their opening game. Middle Tennessee will have a tough team winning the C-USA title this season with UAB in the same conference, however, the Blue Raiders brought back some of their major talent and at worst should be UAB’s biggest threat in the C-USA. Middle Tennessee is a very tough place to play but I liked how Murray State looked against a very good Illinois State team, and I think the Racers should be able to at least cover with the points. Take Murray State and the points.
